Photovoltaic Specialist, Prof. Martin Green, Visits IEE

Nobel Laureates Beijing Forum 2007 was held in Beijing from Sept.11 to Sept.14. 9 Nobel Laureates and 5 international famous scientists were invited to be present in this forum with the theme as “energy and environment”. Prof. Martin Green gave a brilliant speech in the forum. In Sept.13, he was invited to visit our institute.

Prof. Wenjing Wang, the group leader of solar cell laboratory, chaired a welcome ceremony for Prof. Martin Green. More than 40 researchers from different groups in IEE joined the ceremony. Prof. Zhiping Qi, the assistant director of IEE, gave Prof. Martin Green a hearty welcome speech in the name of our institute and introduced our institute to him in details. Prof. Martin Green gave the participants a wonderful presentation on the research frontier in solar energy field. After that, Prof. Martin Green visited the photovoltaic testing center, the solar cell laboratory, and the demonstration of sun tracker with great enthusiasm. He show great interest in the researches of our institute and discussed some topics concerned by the both sides.

Prof. Martin Green specialised in solar photovoltaics (PV). He is currently a Scientia Professor at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, Australia, and Director of the University's Photovoltaics Special Research Centre. He is also Research Director of Sydney-based Pacific Solar Pty. Ltd., a company established specifically to commercialise the University's polycrystalline silicon thin-film on glass solar cell technology. Professor Green is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, the Australian Academy of Technological Science and Engineering and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). He is the author of four books on solar cells, several book chapters, numerous reports and papers in international refereed journals in the area of semiconductor properties, microelectronics and solar cells. Major international awards to Green include the IEEE William R. Cherry Award in 1990, the 1995 IEEE J.J.Ebers Award, the 1999 Australia Prize, and the Right Livelihood Award.

The visit of Prof. Martin Green is advantageous for our institute to approach the research frontier and to promote the research ability in solar energy field.
