The department of advanced electric power system technology is mainly undertaking the research on distributed power generation and energy storage technology which was established after 2000 as new research direction in IEECAS. Aiming at the situation of rapid development of distributed power generation in our country and increasing problem of power quality in the distribution network, the mission of this department is mainly focusing on the development of advanced technology for distributed power generation system and electrical energy storage. The department will provide solutions for improving the penetration capacity for distributed power generation by renewable energy such as wind and solar energy integrated into the power network and improving power quality in the distribution network by quick electrical energy storage based technology.
Its current research directions include micro grid technology for distributed generation, flywheel energy storage technology, quick energy storage based custom power technology, quick energy storage based electrical energy saving technology, etc. The department is equipped with first class test facilities including the test and demonstration system for micro grid, the test and demonstration system for electrical energy saving technology for motor driving system, the test facility for ultracapacitor, the test and demonstration system for flywheel energy storage, etc.
